Flat Car Battery
Today, we had planned to leave work early so we could attend final VOP rehearsal at Chen Li Church at 7.30 pm. I droved to Paya Lebar MRT and waited by the side road at SingPost for Sam who arrived 5 mins later. When we tried to drive off, we were dismayed to not be able to start our car at all! I have switched off the engine but have accidentally left the headlights on ... though only for a very brief period :(
We tried all we could think of to crank the engine but it just failed to work. The gear was at P, the brake was pulled, the sterling wheel was not locked, the air-con and audio were turned off etc. We also called our friends but it seems the ultimate advise was to get our car towed as we were told that most car workshops would have closed by that time. And to think that we have just serviced our car a week ago!
We then recalled that there are a number of car workshops in the vicinity and Sam decided to check them out while I waited at the car to make sure that it does not get towed for other reasons (illegal parking) and is not an accident target at the busy junction. Few minutes later, a van pulled up in front of our car and then reversed back. Sam had actually found a Mechanic! Hooray!
The guy jumped start our car and tested the car battery. He told us that our car battery was weak and needed to be changed. Car batteries have an average life span of between 18 and 24 months. We had ours for 36+ months :p And when the battery is weak, you will notice that the headlights and horn are weak, and the vehicle is slow in cranking. Didn't quite notice that probably cause we have gotten used to it!
So we drove to the guy's workshop, and he changed our car battery to a maintenance-free one. He charged us $85 for the whole works which is a reasonable amount. Glad that it was a simple change and the episode only lasted 1+hr. We then continued our plans and headed for our destination.
Thank God for providing the required resources in a timely manner, that it didn't happen when I was all by myself or in a deserted place, and we could continue to sing for His glory!
